PodcastBuffet.com is a new media network of affiliated websites that each provide access to niche audio and video podcasts. We make the search process easy for you by listing direct links to the podcast sections of niche content websites.

HOW IT WORKS

PodcastBuffet is made up of several hundred separate websites that are each focusd on a specific topic. Examples include:

HistoryPodcasts.com

GardeningPodcasts.com

IndieRockPodcasts.com

Each website within the PodcastBuffet network is narrowly focused in order to ease the search and discovery process for audio and video podcast content. In this sense PodcastBuffet.com is really a "niche directory network for podcast websites" where each site is dedicated to a particular topic.

We believe that as podcasting gets more popular, there are going to be thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of more podcasts created to meet the growing demand for online audio and video  news, sports, music, and entertainment.

The problem will not be a lack of interesting and useful content, the problem will be discovering that content in a fast and efficient manner.

The following Q and A further explains PodcastBuffet.com

Q: Hey guys, neat idea. But haven't you ever heard of iTunes?

A: Umm, yes we have. But here's a few reasons why you may want to use PodcastBuffet.com rather than iTunes or at least explore the network for podcasts as an ocassional alternative.

- You don't have a particular podcast in mind but rather just want to surf and explore a specific topic and see what else is out there

- You have a Zen, Zune or other type of MP3 player other than an iPod.

- You use a cellphone to listen to podcasts and just need the RSS feed.

- You use a different "podcatcher" program to read your feeds like Juice, Yahoo Podcasts or Google.

Q: Why not just build one directory and collect podcasts into seperate categories?

By creating entirely sepearate websites for each topic, we allow each category to evolve with its audience and develop organically over time. In other words, as time passes, we hope to create well focused communities that directly match the interests of visitors.

This means that podcasters will have a place to offer their well focused programs directly to a highly tuned in audience.  While each website will remain focused on its specific niche, visitors will have the option to peruse through the entire network of linked sites to search and discover other relevant podcasts of interest.

Why not just provide a "Subscribe" button to the podcast feed rather than sending me to the podcasters website?

For several reasons:

1. You may be interested in learning more about the podcaster behind the podcast. He or she don't always provide that type of information in their podcasts. Visiting a website takes two seconds and gives you an extra que as to actually subscribe or not.

2. You may want to contact the podcaster via e-mail, blog or whatever form of feedback they provide on their website.

3. You may want to support the podcaster by tipping them a couple of bucks once in a while via PayPal or buying a T-shirt or hat. This is a growing method of revenue generation for many small, indie podcasters.

4. While ad-inserts are becoming more commonplace, podcasters still need to find additional ways to generate revenue and providing traffic analytics to a website is "what works now" with advertisers. This important and reliable aspect of advertising should not be underestimated. Statistics show that many people simply listen to podcasts "on-site". Why not GIVE YOUR FAVORITE PODCASTERS THEIR PROPS and listen or watch from their hompage.
